The Arc of Shelby County was founded in 1974 as an advocacy organization by a concerned group of parents in with the initial purpose to serve as a support for parents of children with intellectual disabilities. The Arc of Shelby County has grown from a small support group into an advocacy agency that has had direct contact with more than 1,500 children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families each year.

The Arc of the Shoals is committed to securing for all people with developmental disabilities(DD) the opportunity to choose and realize their goals of where and how they learn, live, work, and play. They are further committed to providing advocacy and educational services for people with DD, their families, and the community at large. It is their mission to provide quality programs which are person and family driven, as well as value and outcome-based.

The Arc of Tuscaloosa County provides supported employment, prevocational, day habilitation, and hourly services to individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities who are 21 years of age or older and reside in Tuscaloosa, Hale, Pickens, Bibb and Greene Counties. The agency maintains its position to advocate for the rights of all people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities and promotes dignity, respect, and choice for all individuals served.

Dothan Houston County ID Board (Vaughn Blumberg Services) provides day, residential, and community supports for people with intellectual disabilities in Houston County under Alabama Act 310.

United Cerebral Palsy of West Alabama
UCPWA is a nonprofit corporation that supports 16 counties throughout the West Alabama community. Since it began in 1962, UCPWA has been committed to advancing the independence and productivity of individuals with disabilities. Over the last fifty years, UCPWA has expanded to include a full array of services for individuals with disabilities. UCPWA serves adults, providing early intervention training, afternoon programs, therapeutic services, summer programs, respite support services, and adult day habilitation.
